Famous background

This is interesting. Famous background from Windows Xp is actually picture of regular hill in California. Here are pictures from 1996 and 2006.

Shape is the same, but everything else has changed. Photographer of this beautiful shot is Charles O'Rear.

Books Ngram Viewer

This is sad:

Graph shows how often was word "Love" used in literature since year 1500.
Second graph shows how often was word "sex" used in same time period.

Something went terribly wrong here...

Right here:

In this very spot:

Any idea why 1911 ?

If you read http://vlkouse.blogspot.com/2010/12/ninite.html you might probably ask if it is only for Windows (its for both 64bit and 32bit) or if its there for linux too.
Yes, it is (beta):

Fantastic Mr. Fox

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432283/

I saw this movie yesterday and I must say it rocks! Awesome animation, dabings fits so good (just love G.Clooney as Mr.Fox) and story is smooth and 87 minutes are too short. All characters are unique and every animal or man have their own style. I am not into hand-made animated movies, but I wont miss Fantastic Mr.Fox 2 (if there will be any).

The Scribes: Sit on my Facebook

Song about love. Song with lyrics created from dozen of different brands: eg. "so i can make you scream Yahoo!". Song with...just play it already ;-)

Ninite

Tired of reinstalling system all day long? Downloading or searching for CDs and DVDs from magazines? Sick of watching progress bars? Well, me to. And because of that I was googling and found this:
http://ninite.com/

What is so special about this page? Well, I am going to reinstall my system soon (during Christmas holiday) and I do not want to just sit and wait until each program finish its installation. Than click on another setup.exe and over and over again.

This wont happened here. Just tick programs you would like to get and then download small exe file. This is only setup you will see. It downloads all programs you wanted without any extra clicks. Very simple. There is something like premium account, but I do not think it could be useful for any ordinary user. But I can imagine IT specialist who needs to install same programs on 30 PCs without internet connection. Ninite Pro as they call it also provides silent installation which means no human interaction required.

Right now, you can install this programs:
Chrome, Safari, Opera, Firefox
Skype, Messenger(MS), Pidgin, Digsby, Google Talk, Thunderbird, AIM, Yahoo!
iTunes, Songbird, Hulu, VLC, KMplayer, AIMP, foobar2000, Winamp, Audacity
K-Lite Codecs, GOM player, Spotify, Mediamonkey
Paint.NET, Picasa, GIMP, IrfranView, XnView, Inkscape, FastStone
Office 2007 trial(MS), Openoffice, Adobe Reader, SumatraPDF, Foxit Reader, CutePDF
Essentials (MS), Avast, AVG, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Super
Flash, Flash(IE), Java, .NET, Silverlight, Air
uTorrent, eMule
Dropbox, Evernote, Google Earth, Steam, KeePass, Everything, Mozy
TeamViewer, ImgBurn, CCleaner, Aulogics, Defraggler, RealVNC
TeraCopy, CDBurnerXP, Recuva, TrueCrypt, Revo, Launchy
7-Zip, WinRAR
Python, FileZilla, Notepad++, JDK, WinSCP, PuTTY, Eclipse

I Remember when ninite had half of these programs. They will add more, I guess.

Vlkouš x Vlkouse

Just find out, that my nickname is very similar to Seawolf fish in my mother-language. This how I should look like:

:-D

Well, my nickname means something different. It consists of two parts: vlk and kouse, where I used only one "k". Vlk is in english wolf (and we are back to seawolf xD) and Kouse means Bites. So Vlkouse = Wolfbites. No fish involved, really.

Finger man

I love this son of a b*ch :-D

Can You Run It?

Its here:
http://systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/

Very useful page. Choose from the list of games or start typing. For example. Will my computer handle Crysis? Or Dead Space? Lets see...

You get result if you can just run the game or if you have recommanded system configuration. And also you can find out which piece of your PC is behind. Very useful when you want to play something and do not know why it wont run as it should.

Note: You must install ActiveX, but do not worry, it is just for analyzing you system. It doesnt harm your computer.

Prey

Yesterday, I have finished playing this interesting game. It runs on id Tech 4 engine, which is the same engine as used for Doom 3. So game looks good, but its not best looking game of today (of course not, Prey comes from year 2006). Engine supports bump mapping, specular highlighting and also dynamic per-pixel lighting. Engine was modified a little for this game, so it supports other stuff like portals and playing with gravity.

First of all story. I must say, that I was expecting something simple like: they kidnapped me and now I must kill them all. But I am suprised. Everything in the story makes sense. Through the game you live the whole story, but you can find alien radiostationes with transmissions from earth (some creepy live-chat show) and you also communicate telepaticly with final boss through the game. Its both way communication, but you can not pick answers (no RPG choices). Another interesting is that you visit a sacred land few times. Sacred land of Cherokees. Now its good time to talk about main character and storyline. You are very tough guy. You belong to native american clan, but you do not believe in such a "bullshit". And you have a girl friend, but she got kidnapped, as many others from planet, by enemy aliens.

What about gameplay? Well, its corridor fps, but with bunch of puzzle rooms, which I personaly enjoy (like Half-life, Portal,..). First iteresting thing is portals. For example, there is no way out of room you are in, but you can activate portal which is this orange/blue glowing elipse. Enter the portal and you are suddenly elsewhere. Here is example:

(this is from mod, so do not expect custom placing of portal in original game)

Another thing is gravity sidewalk:

Last very useful thing is, that you are cherokee. And because of that you have this "indian spirit mode" where your soul can travel independant on your flesh. For example, you left your body standing on platform, go with spirit to switch to transport you body elsewhere. Most puzzles are based on this three things.

I must say I like this game mostly because of puzzles. But there are few other things you should know about. Weapons. The best alien looking weapons ever. Awesome animation! For example sniper rifle. Look at this. Isnt it cute ? Looking at you ;-)

On the other hand, there is boring and (almost never changing) environment - most of the game you are in the space ship. Stupid AI.

This on belongs to both pros and cons: YOU CAN NOT DIE
Well, you can, but not really. You just travel to land of your ancestors, shoot few mantha looking things, restore your health and continue playing where have you died.

So if you want to play, check out this site: http://srtest.com and see if you can run this older game. I hope you can because I recommend it to you. Try it at least.

+gravity, portal and spirit puzzles
+weapons animatons
+older, but looking game
+low system requirements
+story told through radio
+can not die

-corridor fps
-boring alien-space ship
-stupid AI
-can not die

I give 85/100 (for example Crysis would get 65/100 - graphics isnt everything)

The Pretty Reckless

Sounds pretty good.

GameSave Manager

I have been playing couple of games in the past. Bunch of them. And like in the past I wanted to backup my save games. So I found savegame folders and place them on other partition. Why? Because its very annoying when you have to replay parts you hated or have a very cool character in some rpg and now its gone and you have to start over. But finding all the save, savegame, profiles, save-folder, etc. is tedious.
So I search web and found this:

This is very helpful software, because you do not have to search for every save-folder for every game. Just start the program, choose games you would like to backup and thats it. If you use Dropbox you can store savegames in your "My Dropbox" folder. Comprimation is also available (uses 7zip) and you can choose between levels of compression rate. Right now, it supports this games: http://gsm.duncsweb.com/?s=support&c=supported_games and every 14 days or month there is new update with new games and bugs fix.
You can download it here: http://gsm.duncsweb.com/?s=download

Another feature of this program is SteamSpreader. I do not need this feature, because I have plenty of empty space on C:\ where my Steam folder is. But if you want to move few steam games folders to another location - this is solution for you.

And it looks like this program does not have alternative to it:

If it does, please post comment ;-)

"New" GPU

My Gigabyte GeForce 98000 GX2 died. One month before end of warranty. Lucky me ;) I spotted few purple artefacts while I was playing The Witcher (btw One of the best games I have played) and suddenly whole system froze. Reboot. Playing game again and another freeze appeared. So I installed Furmark. Great GPU benchmarking and gpu-burning software. Available here: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ (or here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=furmark+download). And after two minutes of extreme settings whole system froze again. GPU temp was about 105C. I was not suprised because with GX2 i was used to high temperatures as this. I want back to store (just couple of blocks) and returned my old card. Few days later SMS came, that I can come over and collect my new card.

And here it is:

I was suprised to get GTX285, I expected GTX260 or 275 but not 285. No way ;) Its very good piece of hardware. First of all. One core. X2 GPUs sucks! Or at least my old 9800gx2 did. Secondly, user experience with card. Not noisy(even in load), less power consumption (and less power connectors required), shorter card and of course its faster. I do not know exactly how much, but here is table with comparison from tomshardware:

full comparison char available here:
Tom's Hardware - Benchmark GTX285 vs 9800GX2

To sum up I am very happy to have this "new" card. I know that there are 480, 570 and 5970, but I do not care. It was upgrade free of charge so there is nothing to complain about. I am looking forward to see my "new" card break in future, so I can get another free upgrade :-P

Carolina Liar

I have been inactive for very long time, so here is something to compensate it:

My PC config

I bought my PC more than 2 years ago. For 6 months I had been searching and compairing carefully each component. Everything had to be perfect. I do not remember all details, but I will try to explain why did I buy each piece of hardware. Lets start with hearth of every computer. The processor.

I chose Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300. It cost ~215€. I wanted 4-core CPU with both good performance and low power consumption. At that time, Windows 7 were introduced with their XP-mode, so I wanted my new CPU to handle hardware virtualization. Right now, this CPU still handle every game I want to play, 3D model I want to render or archive I want to compress (But I am already looking forward for Sandy Bridge, because there is never enough performance!).

CPU Cooler
I hate loud stock "cooler" which is added with processor. I wanted the best cooler with the best fan, so I chose Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme (for ~16€) with Noctua NF-S12-1200 (for ~14.50€). There where slightly better coolers with much more weight, but I did not want my motherboard to be ripped with so much weight. I am also satisfied with noise and cooling abilities. Because only thing I can hear in idle is Graphic Card. Gigabyte GeForce 98000 GX2. To be honest, I hate this card. This massive card has two cores, so it has pretty good performance, but it produces a lot of heat. Thats why it is loud even in idle! God help me, when I want to play games. It is extremely loud! It requires 2x8pin additional power connectors and it is so long! It hardly fits into middle tower case. Okey, but I should be happy with performance, shouldn't I? No I am not. Why? Microshuttering. Games keep shutter even on high framerate. It is so annoying! To sum up: Hungry monster. Very powerful, but hungry all the time. For beautiful 416€!

Motherboard

Very expensive (~271€) but equipped with lot of good stuff. Asus P5E3 Premium/Wifi-AP. Intel X48, 3xPCIe x16, 1xPCIe, 2xPCI, 4xDDR3, 6xSATA (not enough xD), 2xGb Lan, 2xWifi. I am happy with my choice. Good layout, beautiful (if it can be said about piece of hardware) build-on cooler and (as a bonus) 2 wifi antennas. "Only" 271€.

Case
(click for original size)

About the case... Well, I want it to have I/O connectors on the top, dust filter and enough positions for drives and disks. I wanted (but did not required) eSATA connector on the top too. So I chose Enermax ECA 3050-BS Chakra for ~66€. Now I can see, that chakra of this case is very weak ;-) Why? Enermax Charka is made of thin low-quality material. Tool-less green plastic parts can be easily broken. Right now I am saving for new better quality case...

System Harddrive

2 years ago there where no cheap SSD drives so I wanted the best of traditional HDDs. I am not fan of 10.000rpm drives because of noise and vibrations. So I looked through a lot of reviews and benchmarks and chose WD Caviar Blue 3.5" 640GB WD6400AAKS. Response time, copying times and other tasks are good. It cost ~79€. I was really worried about the noise so I bought HDD cooler and silencer.Silentmaxx HD. I can not hear heads seeking or plattes running. It is awesome noise reducer. But it was little bit expensive: ~38.50€.

Firefox Ad

Okey, let's start my blogging with something, which I assume as CLASSIC.
