"New" GPU

My Gigabyte GeForce 98000 GX2 died. One month before end of warranty. Lucky me ;) I spotted few purple artefacts while I was playing The Witcher (btw One of the best games I have played) and suddenly whole system froze. Reboot. Playing game again and another freeze appeared. So I installed Furmark. Great GPU benchmarking and gpu-burning software. Available here: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ (or here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=furmark+download). And after two minutes of extreme settings whole system froze again. GPU temp was about 105C. I was not suprised because with GX2 i was used to high temperatures as this. I want back to store (just couple of blocks) and returned my old card. Few days later SMS came, that I can come over and collect my new card.

And here it is:

I was suprised to get GTX285, I expected GTX260 or 275 but not 285. No way ;) Its very good piece of hardware. First of all. One core. X2 GPUs sucks! Or at least my old 9800gx2 did. Secondly, user experience with card. Not noisy(even in load), less power consumption (and less power connectors required), shorter card and of course its faster. I do not know exactly how much, but here is table with comparison from tomshardware:

full comparison char available here:
Tom's Hardware - Benchmark GTX285 vs 9800GX2

To sum up I am very happy to have this "new" card. I know that there are 480, 570 and 5970, but I do not care. It was upgrade free of charge so there is nothing to complain about. I am looking forward to see my "new" card break in future, so I can get another free upgrade :-P
